Vicki Byrd
I am a wife, mother, former law enforcement officer, risk management/safety coordinator, retired elementary school teacher, longtime resident and community leader living here in District 1.
Denton has been my only home of choice; raising me into the person I am today. This town has equipped me with the temperament and vision to serve the people who reside here; longing for the chance to give back an ounce of what was instilled in me.
Texas Woman’s University molded me into the Pioneer woman that I am. I’ve taken bold action to serve my neighbors as an internal champion for my district, my community and future constituents to come.
Let’s strengthen the core together.

“Unity happens when we discover the core of strength within us.”
Vicki Byrd
District 1 is the most diverse district in the city. It is home to the downtown business community, the judicial community, city, county, state and federal agencies. There are new and established residential neighborhoods, the mall, a large state university, a mega church, the trauma hospital, senior care facilities, parks, a public garden, numerous non-profits, the homeless as well as high value luxury homes. This district is the CORE of the City. The people that live, work, and play here, simply want to be safe, profitable and secure.
I’ll continue to STRENGTHEN THE CORE.

Priorities
Economic opportunity
As a small business owner, I believe that a sustainable economy in the long-term requires an investment in our small local businesses as well as corporations that can find a home here. I pledge to work with other council members and the administration to promote viable economic development and improvement in the commercial and residential areas of our city.
Justice and Equality
As a former Law Enforcement Officer, making sure that justice remains blind, supporting the Denton Police Department, the Fire Department and the public, is very important to me. Every member of our community is valuable and deserves equal access to a safe and secure community.
As a retired elementary school teacher (Denton ISD), I can support all efforts made by the Denton Independent School District which consider ALL students as lifelong learners.
Infrastructure and services
As a 40-year resident, I believe a good government is one that understands its duty to ALL citizens. The transportation infrastructure is the backbone of a city’s foundation. This is surely a priority. I will speak for those who feel they have no voice in their own community and its future. I support citizen groups that lobby to improve their neighborhoods and make the core of our city a better place to live, work and play.
